L/O: to apply the theoretical framework to media texts

What is the theoretical framework?

Four major concepts, or ideas, which form the basis of subject content:

* Media Language
* Media Institutions
* Media Audiences
* Media Representation

Media Language

This covers terms used, how texts are constructed and the messages conveyed. It includes:

* Camerawork (Cinematography)
* Soundtracks
* Mise-en-scene
* Editing

Joker Trailer Mise-en-scene
The lighting is quite dark which fits the theme of the film.
Clothes are quite simple
Background is quite simple which encourages focus on characters

Joker Trailer Mise-en-scene analysis

The trailer uses Mise-en-scene to set the tone of the film. It has low-key lighting which helps to represent it's dark themes. This effectively shows the viewer exactly what the film is doing with its setting and characters. It also helps to represent Arthur's mood for the duration of the trailer.

The trailer also uses costumes to effectively represent Arthur's financial and mental state. He wears simple and casual suits which are extremely cheap. This also gives off his mental state as he slowly becomes Joker because his clothes become brighter and brighter.

Joker Trailer Camerawork Analysis

The Joker Trailer uses a lot of close up shots of Arthur towards the beginning showing his face. This shows the camera how ill and tired he looks. This helps represent how sad and annoyed he is all the time.

Towards the end of the trailer it uses a lot of wide shots of Arthur which is when he seems most happy, most of these shots are of him dressed up as Joker. This shows that Arthur has more wide shots when he's happy and close ups when he's depressed.

Avengers: Infinity War Trailer Analysis

The trailer uses Camerawork with a lot of close ups of Thanos, The Main Villain. This shows his calm demeanour and his infinity gauntlet, the main focus of the film. This is used to show that Thanos really has a goal that he wants to reach.

The Soundtrack has a segment where a few characters say one line but segmented. This is used to show how many characters there are in the film. This segment is also in time with the music.

The trailer also uses lighting to represent its themes, a lot of the trailer is in daylight and a small bit is in darkness.

Institution

L/O: to understand the concept of ownership and regulation

Institution- Who makes what and for whom. The owners, companies and people that produce, distribute and govern media.

What types of media companies does disney own:
*Live Action Studios
*Animation
*Music
*TV Studios

It is important to know who owns the media because different companies can have biased views on world issues based on who owns them, this mainly applies to news outlets as they often have biased opinions on world issues. For example, if I owned a news outlet, it might be biased towards a certain party or values in politics.

Audience                                                                        Thursday 26th September 2019

L/O: To identify how a media text targets a specific audience

Mass Audience: A very broad range of people

Niche Audience: A much smaller, very specific audience

This reaches it's target audience of teenagers because the chips are like wolverines claws. Wolverine is a popular Marvel Superhero and mainly appeals to teenage audiences from the age .

Downton Abbey is very regal in it's poster design. This appeals to adult female audiences because it is meant to be beautiful. This could appeal to 19-60 female audiences.

 This appeals to teenage boys because there are 3 people holding guns on an alien planet. They are in a fighting stance which looks cool.

Representation

L/O: to explore the idea of the representation in the media

Representation means that certain people or types of people are spun in a certain way in the media. This could be with their looks, actions or words. This could also apply to places, ideas and cultures.

We can look at different areas of representation:
*Gender
*Age
*Sexuality
*Nationality
*Disability
*Class
*Race
